This is my first post. I decided to start of on a strong note with M.E.L.I. Scalding raw-punk from the bowels of the D.F.(Distrito Federal) in Mexico. These guys were relatively short lived (less than 2 years) and never released much material besides this. The 13 songs here, originally recorded for a radio show, became the rare last testament to a once great band. Although the recording is pretty rough, the bands conviction and honesty shine through and make one hell of a cassette. The desperation and brutality most of these third-world punk bands experienced, along with the lack of finance and available resources make this stuff truly special. What it meant to look punk and be outspoken against the authorities in Mexico, Brasil, Peru or anywhere in S. America made them one bold ass band. Not to say it wasn’t hard everywhere(especially early on) but in these countries you might lose your life for your beliefs. I find it easy to overlook musical ability and recording quality when you know a band like this may have been in fear of their lives for having such strong convictions.
