The first three songs on this 1982 LP are great melodic hardcore, and its hit or miss from there without any really bad songs. An unrelentless record, musically and lyrically.I don't care much for the few reggae-ish cuts, but otherwise I can't say enough good about this one.

Sin 34 - Die Laughing EP
Yes, these kids are the latest rage in L.A. and with good reason! Fast, hard sounds with great lyrics belted out by Julie...one of the best female singers around. Side A opens with "American America" which goes by way too fast. Following that is a song which (if given half a chance) is destined to become a classic--"Children Shall Not Be Heard". Side B is just as good...if not better with the killer cuts "The Uniform," "12 Hour Trip" & the fast, fast, fast "Join The Race". To sum it all up...it's a really good record only marred by the muddy production job.
-Doc, from OUTCRY, December 1982

D.I. - Surfin Anarchy 7" Single

Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown EP
Nervous Breakdown was Black Flag's first 7" EP. It was released in 1978 on SST Records. The recording was originally supposed to come out on Bomp! Records, but the band felt that the label was taking too long to put the record out. Eventually the band took the master rights back, and Ginn put some more earnings from his ham radio business, located a pressing plant in the phone book, and co-founded SST Records with Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski, borrowing the label's name for his new label. They only realeased 300 copies of the original press. Black Flag were able to use the record as "a badge of legitimacy" to begin getting live gigs in the Los Angeles area.

7 Seconds - Skins Brains & Guts EP
Great songs, great band, great people! 7 SECONDS were almost singlehandedly resposible for creating the enthusiatic, intelligent Reno hardcore scene, and that same enthusiasm and intelligence are the hallmarks of their primitively-produced debut EP. Most of the tracks are speedy thrashers propelled by soccer choruses and an exceptionally trebly guitar, though a couple ("Racism Sucks", "We're Gonna Fight") have a slower Oi-type sound. "Anti-Klan" is destined to become one of the great punk anthems of the 80's.

M.E.L.I. - Tu Vida Demo
This is my first post. I decided to start of on a strong note with M.E.L.I. Scalding raw-punk from the bowels of the D.F.(Distrito Federal) in Mexico. These guys were relatively short lived (less than 2 years) and never released much material besides this. The 13 songs here, originally recorded for a radio show, became the rare last testament to a once great band. Although the recording is pretty rough, the bands conviction and honesty shine through and make one hell of a cassette. The desperation and brutality most of these third-world punk bands experienced, along with the lack of finance and available resources make this stuff truly special. What it meant to look punk and be outspoken against the authorities in Mexico, Brasil, Peru or anywhere in S. America made them one bold ass band. Not to say it wasn’t hard everywhere(especially early on) but in these countries you might lose your life for your beliefs. I find it easy to overlook musical ability and recording quality when you know a band like this may have been in fear of their lives for having such strong convictions.
Track Listing:
- Libertad de expresion
- Sin Patria
- Tu fiesta (torero)
- Conflictos
- Diferencias sociales
- Tu Vida
- Genocidio
- El Final
- El cristo de la pared
- Victimas
- Muerte En La Industria
- Odio
- Vamos a pisar (RIP)
